It’s the middle of summer and I’ve got patio project on the brain and I’m sure many other people do too!  I wanted  to share a project some of our closest friends did to their back yard last year.  It’s amazing–Kelly and Peter and their wonderful home they built!

They started off with a single slab of concrete poured out their back door. This was right off the kitchen and a space for grilling and sitting/eating.

They wanted to expand on that outdoor living area and also add a raised bed for planting some serious flowers. Kelly has one of the greenest thumbs I’ve ever seen!

In true yard crasher style they recruited some family to help over a weekend and went to work. Digging out the new footprint and using sand to level the base, they put down pavers and built up the raised bed.

It makes such a difference and really adds a custom touch to the back yard!

Aren’t Kelly’s flowers the best??

While I was facebook stalking earlier I remembered they did another project recently that not only added a clean look but was a very practical upgrade. They used to have mulch lining the sides of the house but as we all know, mulch deteriorates over time. Kelly and Peter dug up this area and put in stones.

This will last forever and looks so nice and well maintained!

In Howard household news, we have broken ground on the back patio! I always know we are getting down to business when the air compressor and an extension cord just reside in the kitchen! We’ve got some crazy plans we have been pinching pennies for so it should be a very fun before and after!

  1. Wooohoo! We want to start our patio project but it’s looking less and less likely that it’ll happen this summer. So I’ll live vicariously through you guys. 🙂
